Music for Your Mind

Our Story.

We are volunteer musicians dedicated to sharing our joy of music to foster a sense of well-being and enhance the daily lives of the elderly in our communities!

We partner with local senior living communities to support their residents in memory care units.

We are a non-profit organization that began in 2017 with a group of high school student volunteers from Weddington High School, led by our Executive Director, Olivia Anton.

Why Music for the Elderly?

Many Alzheimer's patients can remember songs even in late stages of the disease.

They may forget names and faces, but still remember a song. They may be able to tap a beat or sing lyrics to a song from childhood.

Studies have shown music may reduce agitation and improve behavioral issues that are common in the middle-stages of the disease.

Going through songs can help them with:

  • Memory Recall

  • Positive Changes in Mood

  • Improvement in Vocal Fluency

  • Feelings of Control Over Life

  • Opportunities to Interact Socially
